'Active Choices' is Bristol’s physical activity referral scheme run through the City Council. It is a 12 week scheme that provides support and guidance by qualified physical activity referral instructors for people with stable medical conditions, whose quality of life can be maintained or improved through taking part in regular physical activity.
The aim of the programme is to actively improve the patients quality of life through a variety of physical activity options. At the University of Bristol we run a gym based programme where you will work on a one to one or group basis with one of our highly qualified instructors.
To be accepted onto the 'Active Choices' programme you must be referred by a GP, physiotherapist, hospital consultant or practice nurse. You may well be suffering with one of the below conditions:
- Overweight / Obese
- Mild / moderate depression
- Mild skeletal and muscular injuries
- High blood pressure
- Type II diabetes
- Type I diabetes
- Rheumatoid arthritis
- Parkinson’s disease
- Multiple sclerosis
- Stroke / TIA
- Back care
