    Research Fellow and Trainee Health Psychologist

    Catrin Griffiths is a Research Fellow based in the Centre for Appearance Research (CAR). Her research interests relate to the psychosocial impact of experiencing a burn injury on the children themselves, their parents and siblings. She is currently leading a research project which involves developing health-related  patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) to assess outcomes in child, adolescent and adult burn care.

    PhD Researcher

    Dr Jennifer Heath is based at the University of the West of England and working towards a PhD focused on support for the parents of people with burn injuries. She is a Clinical Psychologist who was previously employed in the Sheffield Adult Burns Unit.

    Professor of Child Health at University of Cardiff

    Alison Kemp is Professor of Child Health at University of Cardiff and has a longstanding primary and secondary research interest in child protection, injury epidemiology and prevention. Professor Kemp has relevant expertise in the epidemiology of non-intentional thermal injury and thermal injury from maltreatment.

    Associate Professor

    Dr Julie Mytton is Associate Professor in Child Health at UWE and Consultant in Child Public Health at NHS Bristol. Dr Mytton undertakes research on a range of child health issues, with a focus on child injury prevention.

    Associate Professor for Family and Child Health

    Dr Toity Deave is an Associate Professor for Family and Child Health at the University of the West of England, Bristol. Dr Deave has a background in Public Health Nursing and undertakes research on perinatal parental well-being, injury prevention and early childhood health and development, with a particular interest in fathers.

  • Dr Verity Bennett, Cardiff University

    Research Assistant 

    Verity is a Research Assistant at Cardiff University working with the prevention team to develop a community based intervention to prevent hot drink scalds in pre-school children. Verity is funded by Health and Care Research Wales.

  • Mr Moses Ikpeme, University of Bristol

    PhD Student 

    Moses is doing his PhD with the Prevention team and is based at the University of Bristol. The PhD will involve analysis of Accident and Emergency data obtained from the evidence based Burns and Scalds Assessment Template (BaSAT). The major aim is to discover the effect of several wider determinants of health on the occurrence of burns in children within a sample of the UK population.

  • Mrs Diane Nuttall, Cardiff University

    Research Associate

    Diane Nuttall works closely with Research Nurse David Rea to take the burns and scalds assessment template (BaSAT) for the prevention arm out to the A&E departments and NHS Trusts. Diane also works on the BuRN-Tool project.

  • Ms Harriet Quinn-Scoggins, Cardiff University

    PhD Student

    Harriet Quinn-Scoggins started her PhD with the prevention team in October 2014 and is based at Cardiff University. The PhD will be assessing whether a primary school-based burns prevention program and burns first aid promotion intervention can lead to an improvement in knowledge, attitude, practice and first aid implementation for primary-school-aged children and lead to a reduction in self-reported/medically attended burns. Harriet is funded by Health and Care Research Wales.

    Professor Alan Emond, Professor of Child Health at the University of Bristol, is the Director of the Children's Burns Research Centre. He is a clinical academic paediatrician, experienced in leading multidisciplinary teams, with a track record in quantitative and qualitative research in child and adolescent injury.
