We welcome proposals for PhD projects in all areas and languages listed on our Research webpage. For projects starting in September 2022-2023, we particularly welcome proposals on a more specific aspect of one of the following areas: 

• Use of machine translation by non-linguists for assimilating and disseminating information 
• History of the translation industry 

If you would like to pursue a PhD in one these areas, please send a 1,000-word proposal and CV to Dr Carol O’Sullivan. Competitive scholarships may be available as part of the AHRC South West and Wales Doctoral Training Partnership, the Faculty of Arts at the University of Bristol or the China Scholarship Council. The deadline for these awards is usually in January for a start in September. Early application and discussion of your project with potential supervisors are strongly recommended.
