Security

Everyone has an important role in keeping our site secure.

Only authorised individuals should be moving within our buildings. Visitors should report to the relevant building reception where they may be issued with important safety and security information.

Many of our doors can only be opened using a UCard. It is important that we carry our UCards for access and do not allow tailgating.

Specialist laboratory access

The University operates a signage system to help ensure that hazardous and/or sensitive areas are only accessed by those authorised to do so.

Each area is marked with one of three symbols: a green circle, an amber triangle, or a red square:

  • A green circle represents no significant hazards within the lab. Some access restrictions still apply, but visitors who have attended a building induction may enter unaccompanied.
  • An amber triangle shows that there are potentially significant hazards in the lab. Access is restricted to specified people only. All visitors must have a safety induction from an authorised person.
  • A red square shows there are significant hazards in the lab. Access is restricted to specified people only. All visitors must be accompanied by an authorised person at all times.
