The new novel ‘The Offset’, written by Bristol Religion and Theology graduate student Emma Szewczak, together with Natasha C. Calder, asks what it means to have children in a climate crisis. On every person's eighteenth birthday, they must choose a parent to die as a carbon offset for their own life. Described by Luke Jennings (author of ‘Killing Eve’) as "smart, compelling, and absolutely of the moment," and by Angela Saini (2021 Orwell Prize Judge) as "the perfect science-fiction novel of our times," ‘The Offset’ is also currently being adapted for television.
Good news and congratulations to our former student Emma Szewczak, co-author of novel ‘The Offset’ being adapted for TV
