The COVID-19 pandemic that turned the world upside down in early 2020 also triggered an ''infodemic'' of misinformation and conspiracy theories, for example the claim that 5G broadband installations were responsible for the virus-borne disease, which led to the destruction of telecommunications installations in the U.K. And now we have to contend with a share of the population who are hesitant to take the COVID-19 vaccines, which are our ticket to freedom and out of the pandemic. How do we address vaccine hesitancy and other forms of misinformation? A number of possible countermeasures will be discussed, including the important role of health care professionals in communicating the safety of vaccinations.
