Primary Care e-Learning SSCs in Years 3 & 4

These pages are for GP teachers. If you are interested in studying medicine at Bristol, please see details of our MB ChB Medicine course.

These give you the opportunity to develop learning resources in Primary Care. You learn about e-learning from the Faculty e-Learning team and then have a GP academic supervisor to help you develop a specific Primary Care e-learning tutorial. This year we are offering the following topic:

E-learning module for Consultation skills – for year 3 or 4 students

Description: This in an opportunity to develop an innovative resource for use by medical students in Bristol and potentially nationally to support communication skills learning.

Themes:

  • Communication and consultation Skills
  • Teaching and learning theory
  • Information technology

Aim: To develop an e-learning module for year 1 and 2 students to use to consolidate consultation skills teaching in year 1, to compliment and support learning in clinical environments in year 2, and to ease the transition to clinical placements in year 3.

Content could involve revision of questioning/listening skills, supporting learning about different consultation models, early and more advanced communication skills, considering what might go wrong in student and doctor led encounters etc. The e-learning format could support games/recorded consultation/role plays or other ideas you may have.

Support from Supervisor: Dr Lucy Jenkins, GP and Teaching Fellow, for clinical content/planning etc., and Dominic Alder for IT skill development and support.

These projects are offered with support from the Faculty e-Learning team. In addition to guidance from your supervisor, the e-learning team will offer the following to help you develop your material:

  • A range of guides on Blackboard
  • A workshop in late June/early July
  • Bookable support sessions with the team during the study period

To apply, please contact Dr Lucy Jenkins. You also need to contact the Faculty e-Learning team – go to the relevant year course in Blackboard, and select the e-Learning eSSCs link.
