Bristol Robotics Laboratory hosts virtual conference to showcase cutting-edge research

The conference brings together leading robotics researchers and business leaders to explore the benefits of robotics, smart automation, AI and machine-learning.

Press release issued: 24 June 2021

Bristol Robotics Laboratory (BRL) will host a virtual conference on Wednesday 30 June, showcasing cutting-edge research and opportunities for organisations to engage with the UK’s largest robotics research laboratory.

The conference brings together leading robotics researchers and business leaders to explore how robotics, smart automation, AI and machine learning can benefit organisations, from start-ups to large corporations.

BRL will be presenting over 50 talks, a series of which will take place live from within the laboratory, on topics ranging from smart automation, assistive robotics and human-robot interaction to unmanned aerial vehicles.

There will also be live demonstrations, industrial case studies and opportunities to discover current research from the community of PhD students.

Keynote sessions where leading roboticists share latest research developments and trends, and panel discussions where BRL’s leading researchers will debate the future of robotics and enterprise, are also part of the programme for the event.

David Lennard, Head of Business and Operations at BRL, said: “The laboratory has worked with industrial partners from across the UK from more than 25 years, conducting pioneering research to develop real-world solutions to industrial challenges.

“This conference is the perfect opportunity for delegates to explore what BRL has to offer and how we can collaborate to solve real world challenges.”

Full access to all the BRL Virtual Conference presentations will be made available to delegates after the event.

Bristol Robotics Laboratory (BRL)

Bristol Robotics Laboratory (BRL) is the most comprehensive academic centre for multi-disciplinary robotics research in the UK. It is a collaborative partnership between the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) and the University of Bristol, and home to a vibrant community of over 450 academics, researchers and industry practitioners.

Our mission
The primary mission of BRL is to understand the science, engineering and social role of robotics and embedded intelligence. In particular, the key challenges surrounding adaptive robotics, namely: dealing with people and their unpredictability, unstructured and uncertain environments, and equipping robots for flexible roles. BRL is a unique collaboration that harnesses the collective strengths of its partners to spearhead Britain’s efforts to be a world leader in modern advanced robotics.

Our research
The Laboratory is currently involved in interdisciplinary research projects addressing key areas of robot capabilities and applications including: smart automation, human-robot interaction, bio-energy and self-sustainable systems, biomimetic tactile sensors and haptic feedback systems, unmanned aerial vehicles, driverless cars, swarming behaviour, assisted living technologies, non-linear control, medical and rehabilitation robotics, machine vision, robot safety, verification and validation, unconventional computation and soft robotics.
