This week the University of Bristol officially welcomed its international students to the city, at an event held at the historic Bristol City Hall, located at the heart of the city.

The evening was co-hosted with the University of the West of England (UWE) and included a drinks reception as well as a variety of entertainment from UWE’s hip-hop trio ‘The Reign’, its saxophone band ‘Saxfaction’, and the University of Bristol’s high-energy Bollywood Dance Society.

Welcome speeches were given by Bristol Deputy Mayor Asher Craig, University of Bristol Pro Vice-Chancellor - Global Engagement Dr Erik Lithander and UWE Pro Vice-Chancellor - Student Experience Jo Midgley.

Student guest, Osama Ansari who is studying Operations and Project Management (MSc) at the University of Bristol said: “This is a great way for students to make contacts and interact with people from different countries and cultures.”

Dr Lithander said: “Bristol is one of the best cities in the world to be a student. This doesn’t happen by accident - people have to become involved. Get out there and make this city even more international.”

The evening was the first of a programme of cultural events run by the University’s new Global Lounge team.
