From the South West to the Gold Coast, Bristol sport officer competes in Commonwealth Games

Press release issued: 28 March 2018

The University of Bristol’s Sport Development Officer, Lisa Daley, will soon be swapping the grey skies of Bristol for Australia’s Gold Coast, as she prepares to represent Wales in the Senior Women's Hockey Team at the 2018 Commonwealth Games.

This will be Lisa’s first foray into the Commonwealth Games and the high performing Welsh team, which are currently ranked 26 in the world, will be pitted against fierce competition from India, England, South Africa and Malysia.

Lisa is no stranger to international hockey, having made her debut for Wales at the 2015 European Championships in Prague. Last year Lisa also competed in the World League Round 2 in Kuala Lumpar.

In her role as Sport Development Officer at the University of Bristol, Lisa’s success and enthusiasm is an encouragement to all. Through her work she strives to engage and support students starting out in sport, as well as facilitating and reinforcing club development and encouraging students into voluntary leadership opportunities. These are all fantastic ways of building confidence, new friendships and developing vital leadership skills which will be valuable skills after university and in future careers.

Lisa said: "Passion plays a huge part in my life, from work and sport to friends and family, it’s something I really try to pass on to students through my role. A large part of my work is getting students involved in sport and physical activity, encouraging them to have fun, try something new and give it a go. My career started by just giving something a go, and now I’ve been given the opportunity of a lifetime with the chance to compete in the Commonwealth Games – I can't wait for what will be a great experience".
