Local people can share the celebrations by attending talks, family celebration days and exhibitions in the city. The Faculty of Arts has contributed to the University’s support, reflecting Bristol’s commitment to arts and humanities research that explores the cultures and histories of people of African descent.
‘Our University welcomes a diverse community of staff and students from across the globe,’ said Professor Nishan Canagarajah, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Research and Chair of the Equality and Diversity Board. ‘We are very proud to sponsor Bristol Museums’ Black History Month celebrations. Our ambition is to be an inclusive and diverse organisation, and endorsing this special month allows us to share activities of our staff and students with local communities.
‘We are part of a city with a long history of challenging issues related to Black culture, but we hope to build closer connections with BAME communities.’
