University of Bristol named best in the south for student experience

Press release issued: 16 November 2017

The University of Bristol has been ranked the best university in the south of England for its student experience, according to a new league table.

The University Compare Annual Student Experience Awards are based on nearly 10,000 student reviews from institutions across the UK.

Bristol is ranked 10th overall, with a score of 4.2 out of 5, and 100 percent of students surveyed would recommend studying at the University.

It was also ranked as the 4th best university for student experience in the Russell Group – a group of 24 world-class, research-intensive universities in the UK.

University Compare's table looks at four key elements: institute and course, accommodation, employment prospects, and social life.

When the results are broken down into different categories, Bristol was the 7th best for sporting opportunities and the 9th best city university.

A review from a 2nd year Social Policy student said: "My university experience has so far been fantastic. Bristol University go out of their way to ensure their students are receiving the best quality education from their dedicated lecturers.

"Helpful and friendly staff members are always on hand to offer advice or to answer questions. The lectures are a good mixture of both interesting content, as well as tips and advice on how to succeed. The nightlife in Bristol is amazing and there is always something to do."

The QS World University Rankings 2018 recently ranked the University of Bristol 9th in the UK and 44th in the world, while the Times Higher Education placed in it 22nd out of almost 400 universities in Europe.

Professor Judith Squires, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Education at the University of Bristol, said: "It's fantastic to have such a strong vote of confidence once again from our students, who we know love studying and living here in Bristol.

"Our new University Strategy commits to building further on these strengths, with unprecedented investment in our facilities and exciting new initiatives to ensure all our students receive the very best educational experience."

Professor Hugh Brady, Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Bristol, added: "This accolade is testament to our wonderful staff and Students' Union who have been working so hard to ensure that we offer our students an experience that is on a par with the very best in the world."
