The ‘Wish ewe were here’ sculpture, designed by artists Josh and Aimee Williams and featuring dozens of iconic Bristol landmarks, was secured at last night’s auction during an exciting night of fundraising hosted by TV’s Tim Wonnacott. The event saw 70 of the colourful creative sculptures of Aardman’s award–winning character designed by world-famous artists and celebrities from the worlds of film, art and animation and fashion, auctioned to raise money for the Grand Appeal charity.
Tracey Beck, who bid on the sculpture on behalf of the University, said: “The Shaun the Sheep trail has been a huge success and we're delighted to be able to give the 'Wish ewe were here' Shaun a home in the Students' Union, where it will be enjoyed and admired by students, staff and the general public for many years to come.
“We hope that the many iconic Bristol landmarks featured on our Shaun will preserve a small part of the city's history for future generations to enjoy, while also raising money for a fantastic cause.”
The University’s Alumni Association contributed to the purchase of the sculpture.
‘Wish ewe were here’ will join ‘Bark at Ee’ and the ‘Going Going Gone’ gorilla which was part of the Wow! Gorillas trail in 2011 to celebrate Bristol Zoo’s 175th anniversary.
