Lin Hall, an administrator within Professional Services, passed away in April aged 63. Dr David Langley, Director of Research and Enterprise Development, offers a tribute.

Lin first joined the University at the age of 21, and remained a loyal employee for her entire working career, taking early retirement in 2009 after 35 years of service to the University. During that time she worked in a number of departments, including Telephone Services, Support Services and the Academic Registrar’s Office, before spending her final working years within the then newly established Research and Enterprise Development division (RED).

She played a pivotal role in supporting the growth of the department we know today, which went from a handful of staff members to over 70 employees in 15 years. She became Office Manager in RED and was a ready source of knowledge, but colleagues quickly learnt not to upset Lin since she would always speak her mind and did not appreciate being hassled!

Lin took early retirement in 2009 to relax with her husband John, who notably had also worked for the University for a number of years until his retirement earlier. Many will remember the retirement party held in the summer of 2009. Attendance by staff past and present from across the University was testament to how much Lin was liked, and people spoke warmly of their appreciation of her contribution over the years.

John, our thoughts and sincere condolences are with you.
