Conor McGlacken, a fourth-year Engineering Design student, has received the Student Volunteer of the Year Award as part of Student Volunteering Week.

Conor is the President of the student society Engineers Without Borders Bristol, a branch of the international charity Engineers Without Borders UK (EWB-UK). He began as a volunteer in the EWB Outreach programme, holding workshops for school children on engineering in development, and has since worked on many engineering outreach projects in schools across the UK and Nigeria.

The judges commended ‘Conor’s commitment to go above and beyond to effect change and innovate within a national charity,’ and added that he ‘has not only demonstrated his passion for social and environmental issues, but also for providing meaningful volunteering opportunities to his peers and inspiring them to get involved.’

Conor was presented with his award at the Houses of Parliament on 23 February.

You can find details of Conor’s award on the SVW blog.
