The project is being conducted by researchers at the Universities of Bristol and Exeter and York St John University and is funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council Connected Communities programme.

Working in partnership with the British Deaf Association (BDA) and the Deaf Studies Trust (DST), the project aims to find the unifying threads of the Deaf community in Bristol, focusing on Deaf spaces and places of the past, present and future through creative methods such as these workshops, archive film screenings, the creation of a Bristol Deaf history map, and a march through the city centre.

The findings of the project will be fed back to community partners, the BDA and the DST, as well as the Deaf community in Bristol, to help support community regeneration and planning for the future. 

The project is led by Dr Dai O'Brien of York St John University; the co-investigators are Dr Nick Nourse (Bristol) and Dr Lisa Stead (Exeter).
