Bristol’s Academic Ranking of World Universities score at five year high

Press release issued: 20 August 2014

The University of Bristol has been ranked as 8th in the UK and 63rd in the world in the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU).

The AWRU ranks over 1,000 universities each year using six indicators.  This research is carried out by academics at the Centre for World Class Universities of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (CWCU).

Bristol’s rank is its highest since 2009, increasing in score in the areas of Research Output and Output per Capita. This marks a rise of six places over the past two years at a time when the criteria have become even more exacting.

League tables are also created for ‘Broad Subject Fields’ and ‘Subject Fields’, with Bristol holding or improving its rating in two thirds of the ‘Broad Subject Fields’ and making significant improvements in the ‘Subject Fields’ of Physics and Computer Science.
