An enterprise consultant at the University of Bristol has been chosen by Sir Richard Branson to be part of a new entrepreneurial initiative that aims to inspire more young people to start their own businesses.

Sam Fry, 23, will be one of only twelve entrepreneurs across the UK acting as a Regional Ambassador for Virgin Media Pioneers — a free, online community connecting young, entrepreneurial talent to a network of peer-to-peer support that seeks to help inspire and transform the prospects of young people in the South West.

In addition to organising the student groups Bristol Entrepreneurs, Bristol Social Enterprise and SIFE Bristol, Sam is using his spare time to develop YoungCreatives.co.uk – an online space that strives to broadcast the best creative media of young adults.

Sam said: “Virgin Media Pioneers has made a real difference. Young people are full of great ideas but don’t always have the know-how or the contacts to make them happen. The Pioneers community can help change that.

“They can meet like-minded people, gain experience and skills and open doors to achieve their dream of running their own business – which is a great way for us to invest in our local area and create jobs.”

Sir Richard Branson, Pioneer-at-Large for Virgin Media Pioneers, said: "There is a huge amount we can do to unlock entrepreneurial potential and Virgin Media Pioneers is empowering young entrepreneurs to fulfil their dreams of owning and managing successful businesses.

“Starting up your own business is a big challenge and many of the obstacles are daunting and, at times, can seem insurmountable. But with the right support and expert advice young entrepreneurs can find their way and Virgin Media Pioneers will be with them every step of the way."

Details will be released on the Virgin Media Pioneers website, www.virginmediapioneers.com, of the regional events shortly.
