The Hornstars – the University’s big band – won a Gold Award for the third year in a row at the National Concert Band Festival regional competition in Chepstow.

On Sunday [2 December] the Hornstars – the University’s big band – won a Gold Award for the third year in a row at the National Concert Band Festival regional competition in Chepstow. The band gave what adjudicator Paul Matthews described as ‘a spectacular performance; all three pieces brilliantly played. Very very exciting’. The Hornstars played ‘SO Blues’, ‘Goodbye Porkpie Hat’ and ‘Strike Up The Band’, drawn from their repertoire of jazz, swing, funk and Latin. The Hornstars will go on to the national finals in Warwick next April.
