Studio equipment

Studio 1

Studio 1 is equipped for stereo and octaphonic monitoring.

It can be used as the control room for recording sessions, and has multiple audio lines to the Auditorium and Recital Room (plus CCTV for the stage areas), and to Studios 2, 3 and 4 for use as live rooms.

In addition to the computer and software, Studio 1 has the following equipment:

  • 8 x Genelec 8040A and 7070A sub
  • MoTU 2408mk3 and 24i/o audio interfaces
  • Earthworks 1024 4-channel mic pre-amp
  • Focusrite Octopre Platinum 8-Channel microphone preamp with ADC/lightpipe option
  • Tascam MX-4 4-channel mic pre
  • Art Dual MP 2-channel tube mic pre
  • Yamaha Clavinova PF P-100
  • EMS VCS3 with keyboard

Studio 2

Studio 2 is equipped for high-quality multichannel monitoring, based on Event 20/20BAS studio monitors.

The loudspeakers can be configured for 5.0 surround monitoring and for stereo. The room is acoustically dry and may also be used as an additional booth for large-scale recordings, or as a control room with good sightlines and multiple tie-lines to Studio 4.

In addition to the computer and software, Studio 2 has the following equipment:

  • 5 x Event 20/20BAS monitors
  • MoTU 2408mk3 audio interface
  • Focusrite Octopre Platinum 8-Channel microphone preamp with ADC/lightpipe option
  • Yamaha Clavinova PF P-150

Studio 3

Studio 3 is equipped for high-quality stereo monitoring.

It has extensive workbench space for experimentation and development work with sensors, interfacing and interactivity.

In addition to the computer and software, Studio 3 has the following equipment:

  • Mackie HR824 stereo monitors
  • Auralex acoustic treatments
  • Yamaha Arius digital piano
  • TENMA 72-6805 dual-trace oscilloscope and function generator
  • tools and other building equipment
  • interface devices and hardware
  • legacy hardware (for adaptation etc) available from store

Studio 4

Studio 4 is equipped for high-quality stereo monitoring.

It is also a large live room for serving other studios as control rooms, and is ideal for developing and rehearsing works that involve live performers, electronics and interactive systems.

In addition to the computer and software, Studio 4 has the following equipment:

  • Stereo Genelec 1031A monitors
  • MoTU 2408mk3 audio interface
  • Auralex acoustic treatments
  • Yamaha Arius digital piano

Studio 5

Studio 5 is a standalone workstation dedicated to taught postgraduate work. It is also the main studio teaching space.

It has the same hardware and software configuration as the other studios, plus high-quality headphone monitoring. For teaching, there is also a 70" LCD screen and a stereo pair of Genelec 8040A loudspeakers.

Studios 6 to 9

Studios 6, 7, 8 and 9 are high-end, 27" iMac workstations with the same software configuration as the other studios, plus high-quality headphone monitoring.
