About

At University, Frank decided he would not want to be an academic researcher, but subsequently failed in that goal.

It took him some time to find his niche: after obtaining his PhD at Utrecht University in occupational health, mostly around magnetic fields, he worked in cancer epidemiology at the WHO International Agency for Research on Cancer, after which he moved to the University of Manchester to conduct research primarily on environmental and occupational epidemiology.

In 2014 he moved to the University of Bristol where he developed his interest in the evaluation of public health interventions. He is now a Professor in Epidemiology and Public Health.

Research interests

Frank’s main research interests are around the evaluation of public health policy interventions that aim to improve places, environments, or communities, and issues around the impact of radiation on human health.

He has been involved in, and led on, studies in both research areas, and works within the wider NIHR School for Public Health Research and NIHR Applied Research Collaboration West collaborations. He is also a member of several expert advisory committees that advise nationally and internationally on issues of health and safety of radiation.
