Areas of expertise I am a Lecturer in Public History and my research concerns how people engage with the past; how the past is 'used' in the present and represented through heritage, public history and public memory. I'm particularly interested in the public memory of difficult and contested histories. My book 'The Persistence of Memory: Remembering slavery in Liverpool, 'slaving capital of the world'maps the evolving public memory of slavery in the largest slave-trading port city in Europe from the end of the eighteenth century to the 2010s.
