Areas of expertise I am interested in the ecology, population structure and conservation of bats. For my PhD, I studied the conservation and population genetic structure of bats on the Isle of Purbeck, Dorset. This area has historically had a rich bat fauna, with fifteen of the seventeen resident species of bat in the UK having once been recorded there.

At present I am carrying out research on the population genetic structure of bats in China and looking at the impact the last ice age had of colonisation patterns of different species.
Media experience During my PhD I was asked to give interviews on BBC Radio Solent's 'Topsoil with Pippa Greenwood' (December 2005) and Radio 4's 'Shared Earth' with Dylan Winter (June and November 2007). I also gave a recorded interview as part of 'SITA's Enriching Nature Event', which used the work being carried out on the greater horseshoe bats in Purbeck as one of the case studies in its publicity launch (December 2005).
