Membership of professional bodies I am an Associate Editor of the Journal of Law and Society and the legal trainer for Women's Aid.

Areas of expertise I have written about violence and non-violence, the military, crime, sexuality, the body, cosmetic surgery, female genital alteration and women's rights as well as widening participation policy and care ethics.

An interest in men, masculinities and history is reflected in my work on conscientious objectors to military service and research on men and crime in the latter half of the nineteenth century.

Recently, I was a contributor to the Feminist Judgments Project.

Current teaching includes Criminal Justice, Human Rights, Gender and the Law, and Socio-Legal Methods in the School of Law. I also undertake some law and ethics teaching for the Centre for Ethics in Medicine.

I spend part of my time working with local school pupils in projects run with the University's Widening Participation and Student Recruitment Office.
