Areas of expertise I am currently the head of the Centre for Family Policy and Child Welfare (FPCW), which is a focus for research and consultancy in child welfare, family policy and domestic violence.

My current research concerns educating young people away from home; anti-social and disturbing behaviour in residential care; and, in association with the NSPCC, exploitation and violence in teenage dating relationships.

I joined the School of Policy Studies in September 2005 having previously been Research Director at the National Children's Bureau and Research Fellow at the Dartington Social Research Unit. I have been a member of the government's Adoption and Permanence 'Taskforce' and was awarded the OBE in January 2005 for services to children.
Media experience I have undertaken frequent radio and television broadcasts, nationally and regionally.
