Areas of expertise Each mammalian cell produces about 50,000 different proteins. For each cell (and therefore the whole organism) to function properly, it is vital that each of those proteins is delivered to the correct destination within (or outside) the cell. I am interested in how this process works, i.e. how is it that each of these 50,000 or so different proteins is delivered to the right place in each cell. This involves the use of techniques from the fields of molecular and cell biology as well as from biochemistry.
Media experience Appeared in live discussion show on local TV several years ago.......this was shortly after the publication (by a group in the USA) of a paper describing what was referred to by the popular press as the 'gay gene'.

Interviewed on local radio and local press about research going on in my lab.
