Areas of expertise Following my LLB and Lawyer's Diploma from the University of Latvia in 2001, I completed LLM in International Human Rights Law at the University of Nottingham in 2001. I then completed a PhD in European politics at Robert Gordon University (2002-2006).

I joined the Law School in June 2006 on an AHRC-sponsored research project led by Professor Rachel Murray and Professor Malcolm Evans which examined the implementation of the Optional Protocol to the UN Convention Against Torture.

I was in charge of the European Human Rights Law course at Glasgow Graduate School of Law in 2007/8 and 2008/9. In the Law School here, I teach International Law and Human Rights courses at postgraduate level and also taught EU Law at undergraduate level.

Since June 2009 I am a Research Associate with the Human Rights Implementation Centre.
