Press release issued: 28 February 2023

Law students from underrepresented backgrounds will be offered exclusive access to a top UK law firm, Burges Salmon through a new mentoring partnership with the University of Bristol Law School.

Recently voted as RollOnFriday’s ‘Best Law Firm to Work at 2023 for the second year in a row, Burges Salmon is an ambitious, sustainable and inclusive firm that ensures its clients, people and wider communities flourish.

The new partnership with Burges Salmon will help tackle the imbalance of representation from minority ethnic groups in the legal profession. The Scheme also builds further on excellent support offered by the law firm, such as supporting our students through the Professional Mentoring Scheme.

Law School Director of EmployabilityPro Bono Solicitor and Lecturer in Law, Sumayyah Malna said:

"This scheme presents a great opportunity for students to connect with and gain experience from solicitors from a brilliant Bristol law firm. Lack of diversity within the legal sector is unacceptable, and we are pleased that firms like Burges Salmon are proactively taking steps to enable racialised students to forge strong links with the profession."
