New insights into Coronavirus replication organelles

23 April 2024, 1.00 PM - 23 April 2024, 2.00 PM

Dr Helena Maier (Group Leader of the Nidovirus-cell interactions group, Pirbright Institute)

C44 Biomedical Sciences Building

A seminar hosted by the School of Cellular and Molecular Medicine

Abstract: Like all positive strand RNA viruses, Coronaviruses induce formation of replication organelles during replication, rearranged cellular membranes that support viral RNA synthesis. Using a combination of cutting-edge cryo-microscopy and molecular virology approaches, Helena’s group is working to understand the viral and cellular proteins responsible for replication organelle formation, function of different elements of the replication organelle and conservation in these processes across the whole Coronavirus family.
