Title: Closing the belief gap: information interventions for school-age children in Thailand

Abstract: We design a set of randomised controlled interventions to address the gaps in aspirations and income expectations across families of different socioeconomic status. We conduct the school-level interventions in the classroom with primary- and middle-school students in Thailand, using two main intervention arms (i) a course on career perspective, and (ii) a course on Growth Mindset. As children’s beliefs and outcomes are highly influenced by parents, the second set of our interventions is extended to a randomly selected group of parents who receive both curricula. Results measured 1 year after show that middle-school students are more responsive to our intervention in their skills (test score and noncognitive), their beliefs about their future, and their views on gendered occupational choices.
