New “TA Talk” Series for Doctoral Teachers
22 November 2018
The Bristol Doctoral College’s (BDC) new “TA talk” event-series consists of loosely-themed sessions aimed at postgraduate researchers (PGRs) who teach. These talks are designed to allow for peer-networking as well as engagement with providers of support and development opportunities across the university.
This pilot initiative aims to enable community-building as well as sharing of experience and best practice among our Doctoral Teachers. The sessions will take place in the new PGR Hub, a space designed for PGRs to meet outside of their faculty or department for a variety of their development and wellbeing needs.
At the first session in October participants had a chance to meet their peer-group of Doctoral Teachers from across different disciplines and learn more about how the University’s Personal and Professional Development Programme can specifically cater to their needs as PGRs who teach.
The second session is planned for the 12th December and will revolve around technology enhanced learning, hosted in collaboration with the Digital Education Office.
On the 22nd January, our colleagues from the Bristol Institute for Learning and Teaching (BILT) will partner with the Bristol Doctoral College to deliver a session featuring early career academics who can talk about their own experience of how their teaching experience influenced their research and career pathways.
Dr Conny Lippert, the GTA Scholars Scheme Coordinator within the BDC, describes the new TA Talk series as “an opportunity for Bristol’s Doctoral Teachers to come together and share experiences with each other, as well as learn more about the support on offer for them. We invite all PGRs who teach to join us for these informative, community-building sessions in the PGR Hub!”
Please contact Dr Conny Lippert at Conny.Lippert@bristol.ac.uk with questions or comments about this series or other ways in which the Bristol Doctoral College supports Doctoral Teachers.
Upcoming sessions include:
- Doctoral Teacher peer-group: with Digital Education Office, 12 December 2018
- Doctoral Teacher peer-group: with BILT, 22 January 2019.
