Research Interests

I trained as a social geographer looking at the application of quantitative methods including spatial statistics and geodemographics in marketing and public policy. There I became interested in how space is conceived and incorporated in statistical models and in geographical data handling, and about the various presumptions entailed: for example, notions of agency and structure, of social interaction and the generation of 'neighbourhood effects'. More recently my work has returned to economics, informed by 'mixed methods', focusing on choice and markets in educational systems and ways to support the transition of pupils from primary to secondary schools. I also have a growing interest in the relationship between faith and political governance, with an emphasis on Christianity and the Church of England, and the influence of Christianity on environmental politics.
