The award is given to Dr Galan in recognition of her research into new synthetic methodologies for oligosaccharide synthesis and the development of novel glycoconjugate probes to study cellular processes. She will present her award lecture at the RSC Carbohydrate Group Autumn meeting in Dublin in September, where she will be presented with a silver medal.

The award, founded in 1970 and sponsored by Dextra Laboratories, is presented to a scientist in the early/mid stage of their career for meritorious work in carbohydrate chemistry that has largely been conducted in the UK. Past winners of this award include Nobel Prize winner Fraser Stoddart.
