This representation of Hope forms the cover of an embroidered book binding. Encased is an edition of the Bible, with the Psalms in the metrical version of Sternhold and Hopkins, dating from 1652. It was given by the noted Bristol Bible collector and bibliographer, Francis Fry, to his grand-daughter, Norah Fry, in 1884. Norah became an important proponent of better care for people with learning difficulties, and the Norah Fry Research Centre at the University of Bristol was founded in 1988. Norah bequeathed this treasure to the University Library.
