Churchill's tools

This silver and ivory ornamental trowel and wooden mallet were used by Winston Churchill, at the laying of the foundation stone of the Engineering Building, 14 December 1951. The tools were produced by the Bristol Goldsmith Alliance, 30 College Green, Bristol, and are stored in blue presentation boxes, in the University of Bristol Special Collections.
Sir Winston Spencer Leonard Churchill (1874-1965) was Chancellor of the University of Bristol from 1929 until his death in 1965. Special Collections holds a wealth of materials relating to his time at the University, including correspondence, photographs, and records relating to his activities.
