Why did you choose Bristol for your undergraduate degree?

“When looking at universities I knew I wanted a world-renowned institution a part of the Russell group, so that I could get the best possible learning experience. Outside of my degree I was also looking for a beautiful city with lots going on. Bristol provided all of this and more. During my third year the opportunity to transfer onto the new MSci program became available. I knew I wanted to gain more research experience whilst staying in Bristol and so transferring was perfect.”

How would you sum up your experience?

“My 4 years at Bristol were truly unforgettable and exceeded all my expectations. I made friends for life and being a part of CMM made everything better. The course itself was incredibly engaging, in both labs and lectures, and the staff enthusiastic. I am yet to find another city like Bristol, I miss it dearly.”

What were the staff like?

“All the staff I interacted with during my time at Bristol were extremely helpful and full of advice. Whether I needed to talk about science with a lecturer, or ask for guidance from my personal tutor, there was always someone. The staff enabled me to thrive academically.”

How did your degree influence what you went on to next?

“During my degree I got many opportunities to explore scientific research which made me consider applying for PhDs. Summer studentships and extended research projects empowered me to explore certain areas of research, and I found a passion for microbiology. And all the research experience I gained made my application to PhDs stronger.”

What advice would you offer to students contemplating a place at Bristol?

“The university is an incredible institution filled with world class researchers. They provide all the opportunities and materials to explore your degree with any support required. Going to the open-days are key to getting insight into what you will learn during your time at Bristol. Having enthusiasm for your degree makes all the difference.”
