Biochemistry and Biomedicine

Foreword from the Subject Editor

The innovation and inspiration that scientists displayed during the COVID-19 pandemic is reflected in the following research articles provided by undergraduates at the University of Bristol. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown that it has never been more important to have an enquiring scientific mind. The combination of biochemistry and biomedicine within this editorial board has allowed the selection of a broad range of articles, exploring topics from factors influencing Type 2 diabetes development to autonomic effects of synthetic cannabinoids; from the effect of caffeine on eye movement velocity to assembling novel photosynthetic systems to produce a renewable energy alternativeThe authors have worked hard under trying circumstances, yet the quality of their work reflects the quality of them as modern-day pioneering scientists. Similarly, the editorial board has worked tirelessly to maintain the high quality of this publication. We have worked cohesively over many months, and we are so proud of the final product. We’d like to extend a huge thanks to the authors, the BILT senior editorial staff, and the readers, who we hope will find these articles thought-provoking and well worth the read. We wouldn’t be where we are today without scientific research, and I can’t wait to see where science and scientists will take us in the future.
