Further Information

A full guide to referencing and plagiarism, including guidance on some of the standard systems used in academic writing for footnotes, references and bibliographies, plus exercises, can be found on the Faculty webpage at www.bris.ac.uk/arts/skills/referencing/index.htm. You should also look at the way that referencing is done in different books and journals; you should get used to the different systems that are used, and start getting an idea of which one suits you best.

If you got any of the questions above wrong, or don't feel entirely sure about any aspect of this topic, you should take the time to look through these issues properly. Time spent polishing your references so that they look professional is never wasted; poor note-taking and sloppy referencing technique will at best reduce your marks, and are more than likely to bring you up before a plagiarism hearing.
