Dr Chris Hogarth Book Launch

6 December 2022, 1.00 PM - 6 December 2022, 2.00 PM

Dr Chris Hogarth

21 Woodland Road - LR8

The Departments of Italian and French are delighted to invite you to a jointly organised research presentation on Tuesday 6 December at 1-2 pm, in LR8.

Dr Chris Hogarth (Senior Lecturer at the University of South Australia and Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the University of Bristol) will present his new book on Afropean Female Selves: Migration and Language in the Life Writing of Fatou Diome and Igiaba Scego (Routledge, 2022).

The book explores the writing of two contemporary female authors of African descent, living in France and Italy, respectively, and interrogates these with reference to the prism of 'Afropean' identity. It explores the contours of this new category of identity in relation to other notions of Afrodiasporic identity, such as Afropolitan and Afro-European. It further examines the different trajectories and packaging of these two writers in the Francophone and Italophone contexts and scrutinizes the trend that emphasizes the life writing, autofictional, or autoethnographic strategies of African diasporic writers.

Do please come and join us for what promises to be an exciting talk and a celebration of an important new book!

Tea and coffee will be served.
