Bristol Arts Film

24 February 2021, 6.00 PM - 24 February 2021, 8.00 PM

We are delighted to announce the first event by Bristol Arts Film, a new series of monthly film and documentary screenings happening throughout 2021. The initiative is organised within the Faculty of Arts but open to all staff and students from the University of Bristol.

In short, Bristol Arts Film is an excuse for people to watch films together and to have an informal, open discussion at the end. We appreciate that the current climate has increased people’s stress levels and workload, and so these events are intended as an opportunity for people to exchange ideas in a relaxed environment. We therefore invite you to bring along your beverages and snacks of choice, and to make yourselves comfortable!

Our first screening will take place on Wednesday 24th February 2021, 18:00 – 20:00 online. We will be showing the VPRO documentary “Shoshana Zuboff on Surveillance Capitalism”, an in-depth interview where the Harvard professor explains the main tenets of her new book “Surveillance Capitalism: The Fight for a Human Future at the New Frontier of Power.”

A useful (but by no means necessary) preliminary reading for the event is this Guardian article and interview with the author by journalist John Naughton

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, all screenings will be online for the foreseeable future. However, we will review the situation regularly and our intention is to host screenings face-to face as soon as it is safe to do so.

If you would like to suggest a film or topic, introduce a screening or ask us any questions, email us at bristolartsfilm@gmail.com or leave a message on the Bristol Arts Film Facebook page here

To join the screening

The event is free but please register on eventbrite here so we have a rough idea about numbers. We will be circulating the screening link to all registered participants near the event.
