Following the announcement of the Queen’s birthday honours list, we're delighted to congratulate Bristol alumni who have been recognised for their outstanding achievements and service.


  • Professor Winifred Mary Beard OBE (Hon D.Litt 2012), Professor of Classics, University of Cambridge, for services to the Study of Classical Civilisation.


  • Dr Hilary Frances Emery (BEd 1978), Honorary Norham Fellow at the University of Oxford and lately Chief Executive, National Children's Bureau, for services to Children and Young People.
  • Professor Jonathan Edward Haskel (BSc 1984), Professor of Economics at Imperial College London, for services to Economics.
  • Professor Ann Louise Heathwaite (PhD 1987), Professor of Land and Water Science at Lancaster Environment Centre, for services to Scientific Research and Scientific Advice to Government.


  • Rosalie Adams (MEd 1995), Retired Deputy Governor, British Virgin Islands, for services to the British Virgin Island.
  • Professor Pamela Enderby MBE (PhD 1984), Emeritus Professor of Community Rehabilitation at the University of Sheffield, for services to Speech and Language Therapy.
  • Jeffrey Ennis (BEd 1975), Councillor, Metropolitan Borough of Barnsley, for parliamentary and political services.
  • Professor Deborah Greaves (BEng 1988), Head of the School of Engineering at the University of Plymouth, for services to Marine Renewable Energy, Equalities and Higher Education.
  • Matthew Hare (BSc 1984), Chief Executive at Gigaclear, for services to Broadband Provision in the UK.
  • Dr Wendy Jane Woodhouse (Cert 2006), Consultant and Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist at Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust, for services to Mental Healthcare for Young People.


  • Ernest Gomez (BA 1980), Chief Secretary for the Government of Gibraltar, for services to Gibraltar.
  • Peter Helme (BEng 1994), Team Leader, Structural and Civil Engineers, FCO Services, for services to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
  • Jane Teresa Raca (LLB 1986), for services to People with Disabilities and their Families.
