Our London Marathon Runners

London Marathon Georgie

Five Bristol alumni, staff and students are going the extra mile and running the 2020 London Marathon in support of Healthy Minds, a physical activity programme at the University which utilises the benefits of exercise to support students affected by mental ill health.

Thank you to all our staff, students, alumni and friends who applied for a place this year. We received more interest than ever from a strong pool of applicants, and we are delighted that so many of you want to support the University and our Healthy Minds Programme.

Congratulations and thank you to our 2020 London Marathon team! We wish them the very best of luck with their training and look forward to cheering them on.

What is the cause?

The mental health and wellbeing of students at the University of Bristol is a key priority of ours. Suffering with mental ill health disrupts students' academic studies and personal lives, often causing them to miss out on the transformative and enriching experiences offered by higher education.

The NHS recognises that physical activity is linked to positive mental wellbeing and can help people combat mental health issues. The Healthy Minds programme launched in 2016 with these ideas at the heart of it. The programme helps students effected by mental ill health to get more active and maintain this behaviour in a supported, friendly environment. Here's Isaac's story:

How will the fundraised money be spent?

Research shows that the Healthy Minds programme is successfully alleviating mental health difficulties, supporting students to proactively manage their health, and striving to inspire a wider culture change on campus in attitudes towards physical health and wellbeing.

Fundraising donations help to fund the things that the core funding cannot. Every pound you raise will help to improve the quality of support on the programme up to its full capacity, so that event more lives can be changed and made mentally healthier.
