Safety and inclusivity
Moving to a new city can be daunting. Support from the University and city means you can feel safe in Bristol.
Your safety
Bristol is, overall, a safe city, home to kind and generous people. If you've grown up in a more rural or suburban area, a city will be a change of pace.
Living in university accommodation can make the transition easier.
We have plenty of measures in place to ensure your health and safety in halls or wherever you choose to live.
Below, you can find information about:
- staying safe in the city
- support we offer
- precautions you can take to protect yourself and your friends.

Student health services
Get the support you need for any mental or physical health concerns you have while studying.
If you live within the practice area, you can register with the University’s on-campus Students’ Health Service.
Otherwise, you can register with another doctors’ practice where you live. Registering with a doctor will give you access to NHS services here in Bristol.
Nightline
Available 8 pm to 8 am, Monday to Friday, Nightline is a confidential and impartial service for anyone who needs support.
Equality, diversity and inclusion
The University of Bristol is committed to creating an inclusive student and staff community. This extends beyond the classroom to your life in Bristol.
Accessibility
To foster accessibility off campus as well as on, we partner with AccessAble. Use their Bristol portfolio to check the accessibility of places in the city.

Bristol Nights
Bristol Nights is a city-wide campaign in partnership with the city council.
It exists to ensure Bristol is a safe city at night, whether you're going out with friends or walking home from work.
Bristol Nights encourages community responsibility and provides extensive resources relating to Bristol nightlife.
At the heart of this campaign are the 'Bristol Rules', which you'll see around the city if you pay us a visit. These rules help us all enjoy nights out while respecting one another and our city.
Financial wellbeing
University life should be inclusive for every budget. From free events to discounts on food and transport, there are plenty of opportunities to cut down on spending.
Bristol SU and Visit Bristol both offer cost of living advice and the latest tips and deals to help you economise on campus and across the city.
